Founded in 2002, the ICCUS Society brings together pioneering clinicians, educators, and researchers dedicated to advancing the science and practice of sports rehabilitation through standards, education, collaboration, and fellowship.

Who We Are

The ICCUS Society for Sports Rehabilitation is a professional society formed to unite like-minded leaders in sports rehabilitation. Our purpose is simple and enduring: to foster the continued advancement of the field and support excellence in clinical practice, education, and research.

Mission

To foster the advancement of sports rehabilitation by meeting the evolving needs of our members, strengthening credibility and collaboration within the profession, and providing a forum for discussion, scholarship, and fellowship.

Our Objectives

The ICCUS Society was founded with objectives to:

Meet the needs of our membership

through the development and continuous improvement of sports rehabilitation.

Promote credibility and leadership

in sports rehabilitation within sports medicine and among health professionals, agencies, professional associations, and the public.

Provide a forum for coordinated action

by identifying key issues affecting sports rehabilitation clinicians and advancing thoughtful, unified responses.

Foster communication and fellowship

among members who share a commitment to professional excellence.


Our Functions

In service to the profession, the Society works to:

Support standards of practice, education, and research

related to sports rehabilitation, upon request of appropriate organizations and stakeholders.

Maintain communication and cooperation

with other health professionals, agencies, and professional associations in areas of mutual interest.

Represent sports rehabilitation clinicians

to governmental, professional, and voluntary agencies, as appropriate, and to the public.

Support standards of practice, education, and research

related to sports rehabilitation, upon request of appropriate organizations and stakeholders.

Maintain communication and cooperation

with other health professionals, agencies, and professional associations in areas of mutual interest.

Our History

The ICCUS Society for Sports Rehabilitation was founded in 2002 under the guided direction of the Society’s founding members:

Tab Blackburn, Gary Calabrese, George Davies, Gary Derscheid, Mark DeCarlo, Marty Heugal, Walt Jenkins, Terry Malone, Bob Mangine, Russ Paine, Tim Tyler, Mike Voight, and Kevin Wilk.

Why “ICCUS”

The Society is named after Iccus of Taranto, a Greek Olympian commonly credited as an early pioneer of sports rehabilitation. ICCUS was modeled after the Herodicus Society of Sports Medicine Physicians, reflecting a shared commitment to professional rigor, collegial exchange, and the advancement of best practices.
